A panel appointed by the Canadian federal government to advise on the successes of the current immigration system have reported back that the systems service standards need addressing in order to keep attracting quality skilled migrants. The report acknowledged that 75% of Canada’s labour growth now comes from immigration and that that figure is set to climb to 100% by 2010.
“Canada’s immigration system should develop service standards related to applications for student visas and temporary foreign workers, and should be more responsive to private employers and student needs by fast-tracking processing and providing greater certainty regarding the length of time required to process applications,” the panel said.
